Prom Makeup Tips and Tutorial

Hey Dolls! In July I will be having my prom so I thought it would be a good idea to share my prom makeup tips to help you all. I also have a prom makeup tutorial uploaded on YouTube so check that out if you are stuck on ideas. Remember, photographs take away 70% of your makeup so apply it heavier than usual!

Face Tips

Prep
  • Start exfoliating your skin at least 2 times a week to remove the dead skin cells leaving a smooth clean base.
  • Test out makeup looks at least a week before and photograph yourself to see if the makeup is photo friendly.
  • If you are applying fake tan on yourself, practice first and start applying layers a week before to create a natural finish.
  • I recommend not to start using new skincare products if you are not sure it will go well with your skin otherwise it can cause blemishes which you don't want for prom!
Makeup
  • If you can get one, apply face primer on your face after you moisturised as the rest of your face makeup will have something to cling on to resulting in your makeup lasting so much more longer. Silicone base primers and some others will create a soft smooth base which will allow the foundation to go on smoother. This is because the primer will glide over your pores, creating a smooth base.
  • When choosing a foundation, pick one with a low SPF because the ingredient titanium oxide will make the flash photography bounce off creating a white pale outcast on your face. The foundation I used in the tutorial was Revlon Photo Ready which has tiny shimmer particles in it to try diffuse and blur imperfections. Remember to choose a foundation that is your exact or very close to your skin colour to avoid a foundation line or looking orangey or pasty! When applying the foundation, blend into the jaw line and neck. To create an 'airbrush' finish, use a duo fibre stippling brush. If you want a heavier coverage then I recommend using a synthetic buffing brush.
  • If you have oily skin, take a compact powder with you to touch up during the night. Pick a powder that doesn't create a white outcast on your face and will mattify your skin without making it look cakey. I recommend Revlon Colourstay Powder. You can also take blotting papers which will help blot of the oil. For dry skin girls it's not too much of a worry, but still powder your face after the foundation and concealer to keep the makeup sealed in.
Eye Tips
  • Before applying any eyeshadow, apply an eyeshadow primer to allow the eyeshadow to last all day. It also prevents creasing in the eyeshdow and makes the colours more vibrant. I use Urban Decay Primer Potion but for a cheaper alternative, E.L.F does a good one from the mineral range and also sells a face primer.
  • If you have brown eyes, purple, plums and eggplant tone colours will make them pop whereas if you have light eye colours like blue, bronze red tones will make them stand out.
  • For eyebrows, if you have light hair choose a colour that's one or two shades darker and if you have dark hair then choose a colour that is one or two shades lighter. For a natural finish use powder but if you want a more defined look then use pencil. I used both! Eyebrows are important as they frame your face.
  • Remember to blend blend blend the eyeshadow to prevent harsh lines
  • Apply a waterproof mascara to prevent it from smudging throughout the day
Lip Tips
  • Take your lipstick with you to touch up during the night. To make it last longer, you can apply a lip primer before.
  • If you are supporting a bold lip like the a red lip or a bright pink lip then apply lip liner all over your lips and then apply the lipstick and try and press it into your lips to create a stain. After, take half of a tissue and press it on your lips and apply powder to soak up the moisture making it last longer. Apply another coat of lipstick.
What makeup to take in your bag!
  • Compact Powder
  • Lipstick/Lipgloss
  • Concealer for touch ups

Spring

Hey Dolls. Happy April Fools! Hope you're all having a lovely 1st of April and pulling lots of funny tricks and jokes! I am so happy that I have 2 weeks off school, but unfortunately I still have to revise everyday for my GCSE's that are quickly creeping up! Today, I filmed two videos and currently saving and uploading one. Last weeks weather was amazing and soo hot and sunny! However, the weather temperature has really gone down which is such a shame as I love the sun! I am really liking the spring trends at the moment for makeup and fashion. My favourites for makeup are glowy baby skin, fluttery eyelashes, sporty flush cheeks and pastels like lilac on the eyes. For fashion, I have enjoyed looking at all the pretty pastel shades! I am in love with mint green jeans and I must get some asap! The Topshop pastel collection is just divine! I have also been seeing a lot of bright turquoise and corally shades too which I also really like. I'm really excited to see what the summer 2012 trends are going to be.

I am in love with this turquoise sheer shirt I got from Primark recently for £10. It's such a beautiful colour and I think it is perfect for spring and summer. For the summer you can wear it to the beach with your bathing suit underneath. The hat is also a love of mine. It's going to be perfect for holiday and them hot summer days to get the sun out of your face! I got this from New Look for only £1.50 on sale! How amazing is that?!

On my nails I've got on Nicole by O.P.I nail polish in 'My Lifesaver'. It's basically the same colour as the Primark shirt. It's one of my favourite colours and it puts me in such a summery mood. It looks amazing with a tan too! I have 2 coats of that as 1 coat was a little streaky. On my ring finger I have a sliver glittery nail polish by E.L.F in 'Glitter Glam' diagonally across half of my nail. I think it makes it more interesting and I love the look of it. Normally I class glitter nail polishes more of a wintery look but when it's paired with a bright vibrant colour, it looks great. Thanks for reading Dolls! Love, xoxo
